In the last few posts we’ve been over our responsibility to our children, we’ve talked about how we can adjust our environment in a practical sense to better our entire family. The feedback from everyone who read these has been so amazing, I am absolutely THRILLED now and can’t wait for what we are going to achieve together!

Judging from the amazing feedback it is clearly not just me excited! Give us a “IT’S ON!” if you are in this with us, if you are going to buckle down, take ownership and make the changes for yourself and children to make sure they know their greatness!

Tomorrow is always one day away so we have to stop using that word to describe when we are going to take action. We have to say TODAY. Today, I am going to do this.

REPEAT AFTER ME: Today!! Today, I am going to work to instill confidence into our children. Not only confidence in themselves, but in the culture and people they come from.

Just to recap, Who Am I?

My name is Freddie Taylor, the founder of Urban Intellectuals. We produce a series of historical education products designed to educate, engage and empower the Black community. We get millions of visits to our website each year, over 1 million Facebook fans, sold over 125,000 decks of our world renowned Black History Flashcards, and been all over the media in places like CBS, TV One’s Sister Circle Live, featured in Essence magazine and much, much more.

I am a father of two Black boys, ages 15 and 19. Therefore, I understand the challenges of raising them in a society and school system that doesn’t value our history. The challenges you are facing are the challenges I’ve faced and am facing. WE are fighting the same fight to make sure our children have the love, honor and respect of themselves and their ancestors in a society stressing the opposite.

Doubts & Questions

We know everyone has doubts. Many of the questions we’ve had are legitimate, such as

• Why will my kid be interested in what we do at home when they are already burned out at school?
• Why will they believe us over their “official teaching”?
• How can we make keep them away from the television and computers games long enough to focus?

Are these your thoughts too?

Well… here are some of our simple answers.

We have witnessed just how excited kids get learning about what they could become, learning about people who look just like they do, that came from similar backgrounds.

Kids today KNOW the school books are not true, that’s one of the reasons they get so bored, they don’t relate to the language, the events are so far removed from their lives that they can’t be bothered. You can change that!

We don’t give kids enough credit, they often revert to TV and video games because we are not paying attention or providing any new material for them, new stimulation. You can change that.

You can change all of it!

But it takes a lot of work. Are you prepared to work for you children?... Of course you are! We didn’t even need to ask!

However a little helping hand never hurt anyone and that’s what we are trying to give to our family. We are offering our expertise, experience and providing a community that will help you.

The Ultimate Goal

With your help and our system, our goal is build on the wonderful qualities you’ve already been teaching your children to establish a strong sense of pride and confidence in them. A confidence that extends beyond who they see in the mirror but including their culture, history and ancestors.

This is the type of pride and confidence that will allow them to move forward confidently in school, family, professional career and life. These are the children that grow to be leaders in the community, taking leadership roles at school because they understand not only Barack Obama was the President of this country, but there is a legacy of Pharaohs, Kings and Queens that have brought math, science, language, philosophy, astrology and more to the world.

They see these people in themselves so they will never let anyone degrade, demean or tear them down because they know who they are.

These are the children you dreamed of when they were born. Confident, directed and purposeful in their endeavors who look out for the well being of their family, community and the future.

This is what we all dream about for our children, right?
